We shot this thing in 2 days and as I understand it the whole budget was only around $4,500, which is unusully low. We shot 16mm on my Arri-St and did a nice transfer at Medallian in Toronto. Although I had nothing to do with the editing, I think it was done off line on 3/4 and then on-line from the Beta-SP transfer I supervised.
The video turned out much better than I had anticipated considering the lack of preperation. I really wish the group had been interested in doing something other then what lots of the low end rap type groups have been doing (taunt the camera, and show girls with lots of skin). I would be real interested in doing something much more visually cutting edge for one of Buffalo's many "alternative" bands, but they don't seem to have the money to spend on a video. I think that these 1 song rap groups put lots of money behind a video because they don't really have a whole lot of talent. Their music and video are all about serving their egos, they also don't really have many places to actually do their music (most of it being studio creations) so the video is the only place to showcase their talent. The alternative bands in the area are fairly prolific and would probably rather cut another alblum(CD) for a third of the cost it would take to make a good video. They get to play all around town in the various clubs and bars and don't necessarily need a video to show their stuff.
